Physics of Disordered Systems

A short lecture series by Alexander L. Burin


These lectures will give an introduction to the most important concepts of the physics of disordered condensed matter, including Anderson localization, the Coulomb gap, hopping conductivity, and two-level systems in amorphous solids. The important role of long-range interactions will also be considered: these dramatically affect the thermodynamics and kinetics of strongly disordered systems, (eg. amorphous solids and doped semiconductors), causing a breakdown of Anderson localization and leading to universal behavior for both the density of states and the relaxation.

The application of the results to amorphous solids, doped semiconductors and interacting qubits will also be considered
